Sorare’s NFT empire grew after striking a multi-year deal with the UK’s most famous football league.
Sorare, a Paris-based business that specializes in blockchain-based fantasy football games, announced a cooperation with the Premier League, the top tier of English football leagues, on January 30. The partnership will see the release of digital cards featuring Premier League players for the Sorare game.
The current valuation of Sorare’s fantasy football game is $4.3 billion, and the specifics of the multi-year arrangement with the Premier League have not been released. It is expected to be worth more than the initial £30 million contract announced in October 2022.
Sorare, in addition to football, offers NFT trading cards for basketball and baseball enthusiasts through collaborations with the NBA and MLB, respectively. Both selections include all of the clubs that are members of those leagues. However, football enthusiasts have many more alternatives, with Sorare offering over 300 legally licensed football teams, according to its main website.
With such a large roaster, users may battle with worldwide football giants like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gerard Piqué.
Sorare users will be able to pick some of the best talents in English football, such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane or Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, as licensed players to collect and trade as a result of this new relationship.
“Football fans worldwide can now collect, purchase, sell, and trade legally sanctioned digital cards showcasing every player from the Premier League’s 20 clubs – constructing and competing with unique teams to win large prizes, just like a professional club owner.”
Sorare’s new venture is a free NFT game that allows users to select eight players and compete in free contests twice a week, competing against managers from other nations for incentives depending on their players’ real-life performance.
Richard Masters, CEO of the Premier League, remarked that the English football league “is always seeking methods to communicate with supporters”. The relationship with Sorare will allow the Premier League to continue to expand in a fast-growing sector with millions of participants globally.
Masters went on to say that they aim to continue working with Sorare to bring the Premier League closer to its supporters, even if they are not physically there on the football pitch.
“Sorare’s digital cards and creative online game provide a fresh method for people to feel closer to the Premier League, whether they are watching in the stadium or from around the world. We feel Sorare is the appropriate Premier League partner, and we look forward to working closely with them.”
According to Sorare, the platform will provide new gaming elements such as Premier League tournaments, draft-based games, and capped-mode competitions.
