Chess Legend Gary Kasparov: A Huge Bitcoin Supporter

Since its inception, Bitcoin has had the world of celebrities divided. While some have come out in support of it, others have taken a backstep and did not show enough interest in the change Bitcoin can offer.

Russian Chess Grandmaster Gary Kasparov is in favour of Bitcoin and he has let his support known in an interview to Forbes. Apart from being a world champion in chess, Kasparov is also a writer and political analyst.

Kasparov is of the opinion that with the growing technology the role of cryptocurrencies cannot be inherently good or bad.

“As with any new technology, it’s not inherently good or bad. It depends on who’s using it and for what purpose. You can use nuclear technology to build a bomb or a reactor. Now, we hear a lot about the potential downsides of cryptocurrencies because they can help bad guys rob money,” Kasparov told Forbes in an interview.

“Actually, these fears are overrated.

When we look at the opposite hand, we see many upsides of cryptocurrencies starting with bitcoin and others that followed it and blockchain as a technology because it allows for more personal control for individuals at a time where more and more of elements of our lives are controlled either by the state, corporations or outside parties that may somehow have a clandestine agenda,” he added.

Kasparov was top ranked in the game for 225 out of 228 months in his entire career.
