An astronaut launches the first NFT and raises $500K to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia

The latest public figure to issue non-fungible tokens is a former NASA astronaut who spent nearly a year on the International Space Station.

Today, on International Day of Human Space Flight, Scott Kelly releases his first NFT compilation, “Dreams Out of This World,” to aid Ukraine’s humanitarian efforts in the face of Russia’s war.

The NFT was built by Orange Comet, a content creation studio. Kelly and the studio have committed to donating 100% of the net proceeds from the first drop to The Global Empowerment Mission in support of their efforts in Ukraine.

The NFT’s lecture is also intended to bring crypto to a wider audience and urge them to explore the unknown, as he did during his early space flying days.

Kelly’s collection includes 3,333 pieces of generative art that are currently available for purchase on OpenSea. Each image shows the astronaut in various scenarios, such as floating in space, wearing a gorilla suit, or draped in Ukraine’s flag colors.

In just a few hours, his whole NFT collection sold out, raising more than $500,000.

“I’m not an astronaut, therefore my narrative isn’t normal.” Kelly told Space.com, “I was a bad student growing up — I struggled in school and was a bit of a daydreamer.”
