Is Azure Blockchain Service no longer a thing

Microsoft is quietly closing down its Azure blockchain in September. However, it is giving its existing customers just four months for the transition to new service providers.

New Deployments

The company will not accept any new deployments effective immediately without any official explanation provided. However, large corporate customers are using Azure blockchain.

Companies

The companies include JP Morgan, GE Aviation, Singapore Airlines, Starbucks, and Xbox. However, the company made a closure announcement in a low-key post on the Microsoft documentation site on Monday.

Joseph Lubin

Joseph Lubin, the CEO, and Founder of ConsenSys, welcomed the Azure refugees. Moreover, he said that expanding their relationship with Microsoft helps organizations to take advantage of ConsenSys Quorum.

He also added that the Quorum customer support would offer customers an Enterprise-grade managed blockchain service. As a result, the customers can effortlessly set up and deploy them.

Imminent Closure

This imminent closure has given more public attention through a Twitter post. Azure blockchain is a six-year-old one that got developed from a sandbox-style service in the year 2015.

Firstly, it was developed on Ethereum in partnership with ConsenSys. Later it became fully managed blockchain-as-a-service or Baas preview in late 2019.

Microsoft’s original goal was to create a certified blockchain Marketplace that gives the customers’ ability to discover blockchain Technologies and value-added services.

However Azure page is still offering new users to sign up for free despite stating that they will not accept new deployments on the service.
