Twitter Adds BTC and ETH Price Indexes to Search Function

Twitter searches for “$Bitcoin,” “Bitcoin price,” and “BTC price” bring up a price chart, and similar searches for Ethereum work as well.

Twitter has added a new cryptocurrency feature that allows users to search the price of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) by simply typing their names or tickers into the search tab.

The new feature is an enhancement to “$Cashtags” and was announced on December 21 by the Twitter Business account.

People will be able to see a clickable link that takes them to search results that now include pricing graphs for major stocks, exchange-traded funds, and cryptocurrencies whenever they tweet the symbol of a major stock, exchange-traded fund, or cryptocurrency with $ in front of it, according to the account.

It was also mentioned that simply searching for the ticker symbol of a stock or cryptocurrency will bring up the price graph.

Shortly after, on December 22, Twitter CEO Elon Musk retweeted the new feature’s announcement, stating that it is “one of many product improvements coming to financial Twitter.”

At the time of writing, it appears that BTC and ETH are the only two cryptocurrencies with price charts. Other popular cryptocurrencies, such as Musk’s beloved Dogecoin, did not make the cut.

Twitter Business, on the other hand, stated that it expects to expand its symbol coverage and improve user experience “in the coming weeks.”

Cointelegraph discovered that a variety of Bitcoin variations, including “$Bitcoin,” “Bitcoin price,” and “BTC price,” bring up the price chart, with corresponding searches also working for Ethereum.

On December 21, tech blogger Jane Mastodon Wong informed her 158,700 Twitter followers that the charts are sourced from trading analysis platform TradingView.

The price charts also include a “View on Robinhood” link in the bottom left hand corner, implying that the retail trading platform has collaborated with Twitter for this integration.

Users are then directed to Robinhood’s ETH price chart, which includes a link to “Sign Up to Buy Ethereum” further down. The same links are available for Bitcoin.

However, no information about the partnership between Twitter and Robinhood has been released.

Twitter’s price chart integration could potentially drive more traffic to Robinhood, as #Bitcoin is tweeted roughly 120,000 times per day, according to BitInfoCharts data. #Ethereum, on the other hand, is trading around the 25,000 mark.
