Dogecoin (DOGE), the world’s largest meme cryptocurrency, is about to get a major upgrade that will make the popular blockchain more interoperable and user-friendly.
Michi Lumin, a Dogecoin core developer, recently tweeted about the upgrade, stating that “lib-dogecoin 0.1.2” was now available. He then stated that “this is a big one,” referring to the roll-up of the interim 0.1.1 dev release.
A roll-up is a scaling solution that enables multiple transactions to be processed off-chain and submitted to the blockchain as a single transaction, thereby reducing gas fees and network congestion. It aids in increasing a network’s transaction throughput while improving its efficiency.
According to Lumin, this upgrade includes numerous fixes and enhancements, including memory integrity checks, truncation fixes, length checks for edge cases, and updates to the Go and Python wrappers.
Support for BIP39 seed phrases, a feature that helps users generate mnemonic phrases to secure their private keys, will be one of the most significant additions in this upgrade. Notably, this upgrade will enable users, including non-devs, to generate seed phrases in multiple languages, allowing them to secure their assets in a more user-friendly manner.
Another noteworthy improvement is the addition of QR code support, which makes it easier for users to share their addresses. Lib-dogecoin, according to Lumin, will allow users to “generate QR codes on the fly in text, jpeg, and png formats without the need for any additional libraries.”
Furthermore, the upgrade will provide full support for BIP 32/44 and slips44 HD addressing standards, which improves security and organization by allowing Dogecoin to generate child keys/addresses based on respective rules.
Additionally, the upgrade will improve message and transaction signing capabilities. Users will be able to sign and verify messages and transactions, increasing network security. Finally, Dogecoin will provide users with its so-called current “moon-phase Unicode,” allowing them to contribute to the development of Dogecoin.
However, Lumin went on to say that they were “ALREADY working on all sorts of new inclusions for 0.1.3” and asked users to stay tuned. “Lib-dogecoin will do even more while remaining ultra-lightweight and cross-compatible,” he said.
Meanwhile, as the Dogecoin project evolves, it has gained support from the community and more developers, most notably billionaire Elon Musk. Musk previously stated that he would collaborate with Dogecoin engineers to “improve system transaction efficiency.” On another occasion, Tesla CEO Elon Musk asked the public for feedback on ways to improve the cryptocurrency network, directing them to Dogecoin’s Github and Reddit pages.
