Ethereum 2.0 developers have deployed “Spadina” — the final testnet ahead of the blockchain’s upgraded mainnet release.
Spadina would run for three days as one more “dress rehearsal” after the Medalla testnet went live last month. Spadina will run along with Medalla and test deposits and genesis block ahead of the mainnet release.
“The main objective is to give us all another chance to go through one of the more difficult and risky parts of the process — deposits and genesis — before we reach mainnet,” ETH 2.0 developer Danny Ryan said recently. “If all goes well, it should give us greater peace of mind before we jump into the real deal later this year.”
Ethereum 2.0 is being developed to improve the blockchain’s “simplicity, resilience, longevity, security, and decentralization.” Its rollout is planned in multiple stages and phases, which are expected to run at least until 2021.
