File Sharing Service WeTransfer Partners With Blockchain Platform Minima on Mobile NFT Solution

Layer 1 is now in the testnet phase, with ambitions to go live in 180 countries in March.

WeTransfer has teamed up with blockchain platform Minima to deploy non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the network, allowing users to produce NFTs straight from their phones.

Minima is a mobile-optimized Layer 1 blockchain and peer-to-peer network. According to its website, its ultra-lean protocol would allow individuals to “operate a complete building and validating node,” resulting in what they believe will be a truly decentralized network.

The blockchain’s native currency is the Minima coin, which enables peer-to-peer exchanges between users without needing a third party. The platform is now in the testnet phase and will go live in 180 countries in March.

The collaboration with WeTransfer would enable blockchain users to “transfer their digital assets and effectively collect income,” according to a news statement from the firm.

“This collaboration will investigate the practical use of NFT technology, which is of interest not just to the crypto sector, but will also serve as a test case to illustrate the potential for wider adoption of this revolutionary digital tool,” stated Minima CEO Hugo Feiler.

Several Web 2 file-sharing firms have expanded their operations by digging further into blockchain technology. In October, Google launched a cloud-based blockchain node service for Ethereum, while Amazon’s cloud business, Amazon Web Services (AWS), is hiring to expand its Web 3 products.
