GCash is thinking about a potential move into Crypto

GCash is one of the major digital wallets in the Philippines. Martha Sazon, CEO and President of GCash, announced that the firm is looking to offer users the ability to sell, buy and store cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin on the platform.

Sazon gave an interview to The Philippine star on Monday. In the interview, Sazon said that the firm is exploring cryptocurrency trading to keep up with financial innovation. She also added that they are considering a disruptor now.

In addition, she said that it is crucial in this digital age to be mindful of all types of disruptions out there. Moreover, she said that it is essential to know what the rends are, whether locally or globally, and Crypto is part of that.


Potential Integration

She said that the firm is looking at potential integration options and a relaxed partnership to introduce Crypto trading. She also added that just like in any introductions, they require a platform, a working business model, and a partner, so as soon as those are satisfied.

According to her, GCash is one of the most popular electronic wallet platforms in the Philippines. At least 40% of Filipinos having an account there. The platform, however, is operated by Mynt, a financial services company and a subsidiary of Globe Telecom.

Moreover, Globe Telecom operators the largest mobile network in the Philippines. The firm’s potential move into the cryptocurrency industry is followed by significant growth on the platform. Moreover, the GCash user-base spiking over 20% from 33 million to 40 million customers in February.
