Here’s what investors should be aware of after the latest phishing attempt on OpenSea.

OpenSea

Since its start, OpenSea, one of the major NFT marketplaces, has experienced tremendous growth. However, there were a number of setbacks along the way that slowed its progress.

In collaboration with YouTube, the official OpenSea Discord was hacked and a link to a phishing site was released. So, Hackers gained access to the main OpenSea Discord channel and began posting phony collaboration notifications. A link to a free version of the “YouTube Genesis Mint Pass” was then provided.

It says:

“We have partnered with YouTube to bring their community into the NFT Space,”
“and we’re releasing a mint pass with them that will allow holders to mint their project for free”
“along with getting other insane utilities for being a holder of it.”

The notice provided more facts, as Wu blockchain, a well-known news outlet, pointed out in a tweet on May 6 to highlight this issue.

So, The team verified the occurrence in an official statement. ‘A potential vulnerability in our Discord is currently under investigation; please do not click on any links in the Discord.’

Also, PeckShield acknowledged that the NFT marketplace’s Discord channel had been hacked after multiple tweets about the event.

However, there is no formal confirmation that anyone was duped by the hoax. However, the episode raised serious concerns, as explained below.

The massive NFT marketplace, earlier this year. According to reports, the exploiter took $1.8 million in digital art. Later, the business committed to compensate all affected users.

Overall, the marketplace broke record after record in terms of monthly volumes and NFTs traded in late 2021 and early 2022. But since then, things have been going downhill.
