CZ Addresses Supporters After Sentencing: ‘I Will Do My Time’

‘I Will Do My Time’: Binance Founder Sets Sights on Life After Prison

Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the founder of Binance, has publicly addressed his supporters following his four-month prison sentence for federal money laundering charges. In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Zhao expressed gratitude and outlined his plans for the future, emphasizing his commitment to education and remaining a passive investor in the crypto space.

“I Will Do My Time”: CZ’s Message to the Crypto Community

Zhao’s message was clear: he accepts his sentence and is ready to move forward. He stated, “I will do my time, conclude this phase and focus on the next chapter of my life.” This statement reflects a sense of closure and a forward-looking perspective.

He also reassured the community of his continued, albeit passive, involvement in the crypto world, stating, “I will remain a passive investor (and holder) in crypto. Our industry has entered a new phase.” This suggests that while he will step away from active management, he still believes in the long-term potential of cryptocurrency.

Education as a Post-Prison Focus: Giggle Academy

Zhao has indicated that education will be a primary focus after his release, most likely through the Giggle Academy, an online education platform he announced earlier this year. This project aims to provide accessible and adaptive basic education to children worldwide.

He emphasized his appreciation for the support he has received throughout the legal process, saying, ”I would like to thank everyone for your care and support, be it writing letters, showing support on X, or in any other form. They all mean a lot to me and keep me strong.”

Binance Under the Microscope: Funds are SAFU

Zhao also addressed the scrutiny Binance has faced, highlighting a positive outcome: “A silver lining of this whole process is that Binance has been under the microscope and funds are SAFU,” he said. “Compliance is super important… Protect users!” This reinforces the importance of compliance and user protection within the cryptocurrency industry.

The Sentencing: A Debate Over Justice

Zhao’s sentencing followed his guilty plea to federal money laundering charges. Prosecutors initially sought a three-year prison sentence, aiming to send a message to deter future misconduct. However, U.S. District Judge Richard Jones ultimately sided with the recommendations of the federal probation office, resulting in a four-month sentence.

Judge Jones acknowledged Zhao’s positive characteristics, stating, “Everything I see about your history and characteristics are of a mitigating nature and a positive nature.”

With credit for time served, Zhao’s actual time behind bars could be as little as 10 months, followed by supervised release.

Giggle Academy: Shaping the Future of Education

Upon completing his sentence, Zhao is expected to dedicate his efforts to the Giggle Academy. This online platform aims to provide free basic education to children globally. The concept paper for the project proposes to “make basic education accessible, addictive and adaptive, to the kids who don’t have access to them today, all around the world, for free.”

Zhao has actively sought teachers to create digital content for the academy, stating, “We are looking for teachers who can create digital content. I will be a student myself.”

The Giggle Academy’s logo, unveiled recently, features a bright and cheerful design, reflecting the project’s optimistic outlook.
