Newegg Accepts Dogecoin for Payments on Doge Day

A significant American retailer specializing in computer parts and customer electronics, Newegg, is celebrating Doge Day by adding Dogecoin or DOGE as an official payment method on Newegg.com, the company announced today. Newegg declared via Twitter on April 20 that it’s planning to accept Dogecoin (DOGE) on its platform. The addition of the DOGE would be a significant boost to its usability, which has functioned mainly as a joke coin.

According to the reports, when conducting an order on Newegg, consumers can now choose DOGE as a payment option on the checkout page by selecting “Edit” and selecting BitPay service. BitPay is a crypto payment processor for merchants establishing in 2011. Moreover, Newegg was one of the earliest to commence promoting cryptocurrency payments. In 2014, it began accepting Bitcoin and attached other assets over time. The 20-year-old company has a worldwide presence, working in North America and Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Newegg asks Elon Musk to Buy on the Platform

After capitalizing on the meme nature of Dogecoin, Newegg also tweeted to Elon Musk, asking if he would buy on Newegg.com. However, Musk has not replied yet, though his support for Dogecoin is famous in the community. In early February, a particular tweet from the Tesla and SpaceX CEO representing a launching rocket with the term “Doge” under it was sufficient to approximately double the DOGE price almost instantly. Moreover, Musk has since proceeded to tweet about DOGE semi-regularly, elevating the coin’s price even ahead.

Dogecoin proceeds to surge in value. In the past seven days, DOGE has increased by over 400%, driven by a cryptic tweet by Elon Musk. Moreover, some in the crypto community have scrutinized the performance of Dogecoin buyers and the asset itself. Several consider that it’s a bubble set to pop and that new investors will view losses once they crashes. Others believe that it goes against the beneficial role of cryptocurrencies. The token is trading at around $0.40. Further, it has quickly risen to 4th place amongst the top crypto’s yesterday, as per CoinGecko.
