Playboy Launches NFT Art Gallery via Collaborating With Nifty Gateway

The leading American entertainment magazine Playboy has advocated the launch of an online art gallery in the form of NFTs (non-fungible tokens). It will introduce the digital collectibles in blockchain-based NFTs through a collaboration with the Winklevoss-owned NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway. It will display an extensive collection of art and photography that crosses almost 70 years. Nifty Gateway is an NFT platform controlled by the Gemini exchange, concentrating on digital art sale. Playboy Enterprises, a media company famous for its branded erotic art, tweeted to 1.5 million followers on Apr. 06 revealing the partnership details.

However, Playboy’s introduction to the NFT space will witness the company display are collections from over 70 years of archived art and photography, probably emerging from Playboy Magazine. Additionally, TIME Magazine also entered the NFT space to auction off iconic covers from the 60s to the present day. Apart from curating its art, the media company forms a partnership with Slime Sunday, an artist who collages with Playboy artwork and imagery. Playboy is also associating with Blake Kathryn, a multidisciplinary artist issuing a pride-themed NFT art curation this June.

First Playboy NFT Drop to Feature Artwork of Slime Sunday

Furthermore, the first Playboy NFT drop will feature the artwork of Mike “Slime Sunday” Parisella, a previous Playboy print collaborator and an artist famous for his erotic collage-style compositions. Slime Sunday is already a part of the burgeoning NFT space, having traded artwork through the SuperRare marketplace and even hosting an NFT-themed podcast. Playboy has also declared a June drop with 3D artist Blake Kathryn. Blake is another established creator in the NFT crypto art space who will originate a Pride-themed association with the magazine brand.

The Playboy magazine has immersed in a more progressive direction after the late Hugh Hefner family traded its last shares in Playboy Enterprises back in August 2018. A crew of millennials editors provided it with a new look. The iconic magazine is now seeking to reinvent itself and obtain new audiences with NFTs. Playboy asserted that the NFT industry enables the company to develop its great history of rendering a platform for artists and creative self-expression.
