September’s ENS address registrations set a new monthly record

According to data from Dune Analytics, a cryptocurrency analysis website, the number of newly registered Ethereum Name Service (ENS) addresses in September reached a monthly record high of 427,325 at the time of publication, despite the total NFT trading volume declining 97% from January when sales peaked.

According to data from Dune Analytics as of Friday, 2.59 million ENS addresses had been generated altogether.

A protocol called Ethereum Name Service condenses long address strings into readable chunks that end in “.eth.” The name is a non-fungible token (NFT) that can be traded on exchanges like OpenSea.

ENS once outperformed the well-liked Bored Ape NFT series and took the top spot in September trading volume on OpenSea.

Popular brand names are in demand. In September, “Toyota.eth” was sold for 20 ETH (roughly US$26,556), or about the same cost as a base Toyota Camry.

Following its sponsorship of the National Football League’s New England Patriots team in September, Chain Chief Executive Officer Deepak Thapliyal claimed the blockchain infrastructure company purchased “patriots.eth” for 75 ETH (more than US$99,000 at the time) (NFL)
