Twelve of the clocks will be made available exclusively to owners of the previous NFT line by Murakami and Hublot.
Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has collaborated with Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot to launch a new line of real-world timepieces tied to non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The new series, the fourth artistic collaboration between Hublot and Murakami, consists of thirteen unique NFTs inspired by 1970s Japanese video games and television shows. In addition, the NFTs are modeled around the January 2021-launched Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All-Black watch.
The NFTs correspond to thirteen actual watches that will make their debut at the Watches & Wonders 2023 trade event in April. Each digital reproduction is available in a distinct rainbow color and contains Murakami’s renowned flower mascot.
Twelve of the thirteen clocks will be made available exclusively to collectors who acquired one of the 324 Murakami and Hublot NFTs produced in April 2022.
The Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow, which was unveiled at an event in New York on Thursday, has a spinning flower embellished with rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites, and topaz.
The twelve NFTs are transferable on OpenSea until April 2024. If a collector acquires all twelve NFTs, he or she will be eligible to purchase the highly wanted Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow watch. If no collector is able to acquire all 12 NFTs, Hublot will sell off the watch to donate money to charity.
Since the debut of his Murakami Flowers collection in March 2021, Murakami has been associated with NFTs. In November 2021, he collaborated with Nike’s digital wearables company RTFKT to develop a limited-edition capsule collection featuring their avatar NFT project CloneX. And in April of last year, Murakami released a Cryptokicks NFT sneaker with Nike for 45 ETH, or around $134,000.
