Visa’s Creator Program, in which a small number of small business owners will be backed through non-fungible tokens, is the latest in the payments technology firm’s crypto plans (NFTs).
Visa’s Creator Program will be a one-year immersion program aimed at nurturing a “global cohort of artists” interested in exploring NFTs as a viable business approach.
“Tapping into new channels for digital commerce” will be aided for creators in industries such as art, music, fashion, and film, among other areas of creative creation.
Micah Johnson, a former Major League Baseball second baseman, was one of the initial Creator Program participants, launching Aku, his first NFT character, in 2021.
The initiative will choose participants who are “serious about adopting NFTs into their business model,” according to Visa, and will assist them gain a better understanding of crypto commerce and regular payments.
Participants will receive technical and product coaching, community building, access to thought leaders, exposure to Visa’s clients and partners, as well as a one-time stipend to help kick-start their dreams. The $100 billion projected size of the creative economy is one of the key reasons why Visa established the program.
