According to a Chinese media story, cybercriminals are holding a computer database at a supermarket in eastern China hostage. Now, seeking 0.042 Bitcoin, or US$1,832.
It would be illegal for Ouranda store to make the payment because China outlawed all cryptocurrency-related transactions in September 2021. Which, includes those performed by crypto exchanges outside of China.
In December, hackers sought 0.042 Bitcoin from the retailer. That’s, which has so far either refused or been unable to pay the ransom due to legal issues.
According to The Paper, the supermarket, which is located in the key eastern city of Wenzhou. Of course, has been unable to allow customers to pay using their store-issued prepaid value card as a result of the attack.
The retailer has informed the authorities about the situation.
