Bitcoin thief hacked the Twitter accounts of prominent names such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Overnight it was seen that their accounts were compromised with cryptocurrency related posts.
Although it is not clear that why the account was hacked some speculations say that it was done to make Bitcoin more visible among public. It might also act as a drawback for Bitcoin as investors might feel insecure and potential new clients might take a step back.
The act is also been regarded as one of the biggest heist on the micro-blogging site. According to some tweets, it is also said that over 5000 people fell for the scam and sent the hackers over $7.8M USD.
Twitter handles of Joe Biden, Kim Kardarshian and Kanye West, Barack Obama were also hacked on the similar grounds. Twitter has, however, taken charge of the situation and asked the verified users to refrain from posting. It has also cleared the malicious tweets on the accounts but screenshots are still doing the rounds on internet.
“We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter,” the company said on Twitter. “We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.”
In the wake of the situation, Twitter has also asked its users to change their passwords, with some verified users blocked from tweeting.
