A hacker uses verified Twitter accounts to promote a bogus Azuki NFT drop

Nft

One of the most recent victims of a series of attacks targeting verified Twitter accounts advertising phony Azuki non-fungible token (NFT) airdrops was India’s Ministry of Education.

On Sunday, India’s University Grant Commission (UGC), which has over 295,000 Twitter followers, was hacked.

The hackers replaced UGC’s profile photo with an Azuki-related image and modified his bio to that of the co-creator of Azuki NFTs.

After six hours, the account was retrieved by the UGC, a statutory organization set up by the Ministry of Education to coordinate and maintain higher education standards across India.

The scammer then sent users a link to claim a secret airdrop of Beanz, an NFT that was delivered to Azuki NFT holders in the previous week.

Claimants were told to connect their Ethereum wallets, but unwary account users who accepted the invitation risked losing the NFTs in their wallets.

Over the last week, several verified accounts belonging to journalists and media personalities have reported similar incidents.
