Yuga Labs Reveals Mailchimp Account Compromised But Claims NFTs Are Safe

Mailchimp has reported that it was the victim of a cyberattack that compromised Yuga Labs‘ account. However, Yuga Labs affirmed that the NFTs themselves are safe.

Mailchimp, an email platform and marketing provider, recently experienced a data breach, which resulted in the compromising of Yuga Labs’ account. On January 19, the well-known NFT firm, which is behind Bored Ape Yacht Club, Meebits, CryptoPunks, and other projects, tweeted about the incident.

Yuga Labs said that it had only used the service a few times and for “limited objectives,” but that it wanted to share the information for safety reasons. “An unauthorised actor may have obtained data in our account,” they did say. However, no data appears to have been exported.

Yuga Labs also revealed that the data in the Mailchimp account was simply from a small email campaign. It had nothing to do with the actual minting of NFTs.

The organisation informed the community that it would only contact relevant individuals using a Yuga Labs email account if they suspected their data had been compromised. They stressed the importance of prudence for users.

Mailchimp security discovered the issue on January 11. It started taking action immediately after, alerting people affected the next day. Hundreds of clients were affected in total.

Mailchimp has been hacked twice in the last six months, making this the second time in six months. Last time, the attacker gained access through social engineering, and the impacted accounts were mostly tied to bitcoin and finance.

Indirect attacks against the cryptocurrency business are prevalent. As a result, players in the area caution users to be wary of fraudulent emails or direct messages.

Yuga Labs has kept its objectives in the NFT space alive and well, with several new innovations. The business recently released the specifications of a Sewer Pass, an NFT collection that will be provided as a free claim to all BAYC and MAYC owners.

Dookey Dash, an endless runner game that requires a Sewer Pass to play, was also disclosed by the business. Following the announcement, the project’s sales skyrocketed. In just a few hours, the Sewer Pass NFT collection garnered more than $6 million.
