Spotify Is Testing Token-Enabled Music Playlists

Streaming music Token-enabled playlists, a new service being tested by Spotify, enables owners of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) link their wallets and access curated music.

Token owners in the Fluf, Moonbirds, Kingship, and Overlord communities can currently use the service. The three-month testing period will see frequent updates to the curated playlists, which will only be accessible to community members via a special URL.

The lizard-themed Creepz NFT project’s holders can connect their Web3 wallet to Spotify to access the project’s community-curated “Invasion” playlist, according to a tweet from Web3 gaming and media universe Overlord on Wednesday.

According to a tweet from Overlord, only Android users in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand can presently access the trial.

In a tweet reply, Spotify seemed to confirm the information.

The NFT band KINGSHIP from Universal Music Group also revealed that it has produced a token-gated playlist for NFT holders that included songs by Led Zeppelin, Queen, Missy Eliott, Snoop Dogg, and Missy Eliott.

Apoorv Lathey, the lead developer for the NFT liquidity protocol NFTX, posted a screenshot from the pilot that demonstrated how to get the tailored playlist for KINGSHIP on Spotify step-by-step.

The spokesperson stated, “Some of those ultimately pave the path for our broader user experience, and others serve just as essential learnings.

On future plans to expand the feature’s availability, Spotify did not offer any other information.

The over 489 million user global streaming network has tried incorporating NFTs into its service in the past. The Wombats and Steve Aoki were among the musicians who were given permission by Spotify in May 2022 to advertise NFTs on their accounts.

To decentralize the music-listening experience, a variety of Web3 music services have emerged. Although Royal and anotherblock enable producers to sell music royalties as fractionalized NFTs, Audius, a crypto-linked streaming service, allows customers to receive AUDIO token rewards for using its app.
