Metallica, on the other hand, was quick to point out “the ugly side of social media,” asking fans to stay away from Metallica Crypto giveaways by saying, “Let’s be as clear as possible. “Metallica’s crypto-currency giveaways are cons.”
CertiK, a blockchain security company, says that the number of front-running scams on YouTube has gone up by 500% in one year, which is sad but true. The ongoing Metallica scams add to the numbers, and the band has warned about fake YouTube channels that lead to unofficial phishing websites.
Fans were also asked to only interact with verified Metallica accounts, especially when it came to “too wild and crazy to be true” information.
Even though people in the crypto community know how to spot a scam, the alert is meant to warn non-crypto fans and general fans who may be more likely to fall for the new scam.
Metallica also gave fans a list of their official social media accounts so that no one would fall for one of the many scams that involve giving away cryptocurrency.
