Yuga Laboratories, the designer of the bored Ape Yacht Club, began minting its newest NFT collection, HV-MTL, on Wednesday through a so-called “summoning” procedure in which owners of Sewer Pass NFTs can burn—destroy—them in exchange for robots known as Mechs.
HV-MTL (Heavy Metal) is a collection of 30,000 “Evo 1” Mechs that are released from a “Power Source” when Sewer Pass NFTs are destroyed, granting access to future games and content.
On OpenSea on Wednesday, the floor price for the HV-MTL NFTs reached 2.7 ETH, or roughly $4,445 per unit. On the secondary market, HV-MTL also reached 2,588 ETH, or almost $4.3 million.
Dookey Dash was a browser-based “endless runner” game that challenged players to advance as far as they could through a virtual sewer system while avoiding obstacles and picking up items. The NFT racing game Dookey Dash came to an end last month after esports sensation Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson won the inaugural race.
Approximately 25,000 gamers competed in the race, which used Sewer Passes as fuel (unique digital items available only to Bored Ape Yacht Club Members). The Sewer Permits will now be robotic companions for the owners’ monkeys.
Some collectors reported problems with the HV-MTL information and the absence of “companion” features. Yuga Labs said they were looking into it, and that in the meantime, “the characteristic has been removed from the collection for the time being, and we will push a metadata update when this is rectified.”
The problem was resolved after more than four hours. Coupled with the excitement over the newest Bored Ape-related NFT decrease comes the need for extra care. Fraudsters posing as the Bored Ape Yacht Club distributed malicious internet links to attract and trap would-be collectors.
Yuga Labs has long been connected with the Ethereum ecosystem and NFTs, but the business recently pushed into the Bitcoin ecosystem with the introduction of Twelvesfold, a collection of 300 generative art pieces that raised over $16 million.
