Elon Musk Sues Sam Altman and OpenAI

  • Elon Musk sues OpenAI and Sam Altman claiming it has abandoned its original mission of developing open-source technology to benefit humanity.

In a surprising move, Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman.

Musk, an early investor and co-founder of OpenAI, alleges that the company has strayed from its original non-profit mission of developing AI to benefit humanity.

The lawsuit claims that when Altman and another OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman approached Musk in 2015, their vision was to create an open-source, non-profit effort on par with major AI labs.

However, Musk argues that OpenAI has since abandoned those principles by restricting public access to its technology in order to maximize profits.

Much of Musk’s complaint focuses on OpenAI’s close relationship with Microsoft, which has invested billions into the company.

The lawsuit asks the court to force OpenAI to return to its open-source roots and prevent the company, as well as Microsoft and named founders, from profiting off its technology.
