In the search for Terra’s Do Kwon, Interpol’s global police beat moves to the metaverse

To aid in the protection of communities in virtual realms, the multinational police organization Interpol has developed its own metaverse. The change happened after Do Kwon, the sought co-founder of Terraform Labs, silently fled Singapore for Dubai and potentially other locations.

The “first ever metaverse specifically created for law enforcement globally,” according to Interpol, was launched at the 90th Interpol General Assembly on Thursday in New Delhi and is now “completely operational.”

In a promotional video, Interpol declared, “The possibilities are endless,” showcasing possible applications such as a virtual immigration and border control checkpoint, a crime scene training facility, and a rendering of Interpol’s General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon, which delegates in New Delhi were able to visit virtually.

The Expert Group on the Metaverse, as described by Interpol, will be established to “reflect the concerns of law enforcement on the global stage – ensuring this new virtual world is secure by design.”

The Indian police in Firozabad inaugurated a Web3-powered online complaint portal earlier this month, making Interpol not the first law enforcement agency to use it in its operations.

Following its ongoing search for Do Kwon, the CEO of Terraform Labs, Interpol entered the Web3 space with the intention of improving border control. It issued a red notice against him requesting that international law enforcement locate and temporarily detain him. Do Kwon has refuted accusations from South Korean prosecutors that, while going from South Korea to Singapore, Dubai, and perhaps other destinations, he is “clearly on the run.”
