MultiversX's CEO discusses spatial computing while focusing on the scalability of the metaverse.

The CEO of MultiversX engaged in a comprehensive discussion concerning Meta and Apple’s recent of interest in the ever-expanding metaverse domain. In a meticulous analysis of their approaches, we delve into the metaverse’s intriguing journey through the lens of crypto enthusiasts and venture capitalists during the previous bullish market era. Meta and Apple’s foray into this domain significantly validated the concept, albeit in markedly distinct ways.

On one end of the spectrum, Meta has realigned its entire focus towards the realm of virtual reality (VR), unveiling cutting-edge smart glasses in collaboration with the renowned Ray-Ban. In stark contrast, Apple has adopted a spatial computing paradigm, placing a firm emphasis on augmented reality (AR) and introducing its bespoke AR glasses early in the year 2023.

Beniamin Mincu, the visionary CEO of MultiversX, a blockchain-based platform with an exclusive metaverse focus, posits that Apple’s spatial computing approach might be better suited to the metaverse vision when compared to Meta’s VR Quest headset. In an exclusive tête-à-tête with Zhiyuan Sun, the esteemed editor at Cointelegraph, Mincu asserts that Meta’s virtual reality-centric approach might miss the mark, lacking the intuitive nature that Apple’s spatial computing approach infuses into the AR glasses.

He elucidates that Meta’s glasses are primarily attuned to a specific virtual realm, whereas the metaverse embodies an interactive journey within that virtual universe. These glasses are designed to cater to a single-use case rather than the versatility sought in the metaverse:

‘I believe the most fundamental shift in this conversation is perceiving a lens or interface as a spatial computing apparatus. Apple has introduced an underrated paradigm shift with spatial computing. It may seem similar, yet it’s an entirely different world.’

Spatial computing encompasses an array of processes and tools, including Internet of Things, digital twins, ambient computing, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and tangible controls. It embodies human interaction with a machine wherein the device recognizes and manipulates real-world objects and spaces.

Mincu further affirms that MultiversX’s forthcoming technical enhancements, scheduled for October 19, will bring it in line with the spatial computing approach, rendering it more scalable. These upgrades will introduce pivotal features to the platform, encompassing early block proposals, parallel node processing, consensus signature checks, and dynamic gas cost improvements.

These technical strides promise to augment transactional throughput sevenfold, resulting in expedited confirmations and reduced finality periods. Notably, the upgrade will usher in on-chain governance, an enhanced virtual machine, and a refined relayed transaction model, empowering network tokens to offset gas-related costs.”
