Polygon zkEVM, a Layer 2 network built on Ethereum, experienced a significant network outage that lasted over ten hours.

The block explorer for Polygon zkEVM displayed a ten-hour period on March 23 during which consecutive blocks were not successfully sequenced and added to the chain.

The team behind Polygon zkEVM addressed the outage on X, stating that it was caused by an issue with the sequencer due to a “L1 reorg.”

They assured the community that they are actively working on resolving the problem and will provide a detailed post-mortem analysis of the incident.

Polygon zkEVM was launched on March 27, 2023, with a symbolic first transaction conducted by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

It is a zero-knowledge scaling rollup solution that is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

However, despite its launch and potential, Polygon zkEVM has struggled to gain the same level of adoption as other Layer 2 networks.

It’s important to note that the outage only affected Polygon zkEVM and did not impact Polygon’s main blockchain or any chains built using Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK).

The team expressed their anticipation for the release of the second generation zkEVM in the coming weeks.
