Yuga Labs Announces Skill-Based NFT Mint

The gamified development of its Bored Ape Yacht Club environment entails minting a free Sewer Pass to play Dookey Dash.

Yuga Labs, the creative company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has announced a new expansion to its non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem, beginning with a free mint and a skill-based game.

The one-of-a-kind drop begins on January 17 with a free mint dubbed Sewer Passes for existing Bored Ape Yacht Club/Mutant Ape Yacht Club members. These tokens are required to play Dookey Dash, a skill-based game that will be available on January 18.

Anyone with a Sewer Pass, even those purchased on the secondary market, will be allowed to play Dookey Dash. Holders can play the game an unlimited number of times in order to receive a score greater than 0 and validate their Sewer Passes and “convert them into a secret power source.”

The outcome of this bizarre process will be revealed on February 15, when Dookey Dash gameplay concludes.

“Sewer Pass holders will fight for the highest score and earn their new power source,” BAYC announced on Wednesday in a series of tweets. What it shows will be determined by the highest single-run score on your unique Sewer Pass and accompanying wallet that achieved the run.”

The team also implied that whatever is released will “develop throughout 2023” and be used in future “battles.” A detailed description of the game’s mechanics may be found here.

This new NFT mint, which debuted with a hilarious and NSFW animated movie called “The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey” on December 21, is clearly part of Yuga’s larger intentions to create an interoperable metaverse experience called “The Otherside.” Players will be able to own land and transform their existing NFTs into playable characters using the platform.

“All of the initiatives that we have are very significant to us,” Wylie Aronow, one of Yuga Labs’ co-founders, told CoinDesk last month. “That junction is where we see the Otherside.”

According to Yuga Labs’ latest project’s roadmap, the NFTs developed during this month-long experiment would be used in a narrative experience called “Chapter 1” at a later date.
