Mutant Ape Yacht Club is the fifth NFT collection to reach the $1 billion mark

According to CryptoSlam data, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) became the sixth non-fungible token (NFT) collection to reach $1 billion in total sales on Wednesday.

With almost US$4 billion in sales, Axie Infinity leads the pack, followed by CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), and Art Blocks.

MAYC is a collection of 20,000 NFTs that was developed by exposing BAYC NFTs to a “mutant serum” and released in August 2021.

MAYC has experienced a surge in sales, with a 72 percent increase in the last seven days. Of course, thanks to founder Yuga Labs’ acquisition of CryptoPunks and Meebits licenses from Larva Labs.

While NFT market sales have slowed in recent days, CryptoPunks, Meebits, BAYC. The, and MAYC have all experienced significant increases in sales volume following Yuga Labs’ acquisition. Also, with Meebits increasing by more than 1,000% in just seven days.

NBA Top Shot, a Dapper Labs NFT collection, is just $50 million away from becoming the sixth NFT collection to reach $1 billion in sales.
